THE STORY
“It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas, everywhere you go!” Meredith Willson’s lyrics could not be more accurate.
It’s the 29th November 2016 and as I write this piece I am feeling both exhilarated and somewhat anxious that Christmas is less than a month away.
Christmas Day is always wonderful. Every year we go to church as a family, which is then followed by a long lunch and shortly after an even longer dinner. Family and food in abundance.
However the lead-up to Christmas is a very different story. For most of us, it doesn’t matter the day, they’re all hectic. Even though I don’t have any kids of my own yet, I still find I’m super busy. Hats off to all parents out there.
As the years flow by, I have noticed two signifiant changes. One. Time races by so quickly as Christmas draws near. And two. As your adrenalin heads into fifth gear, your inner robot takes over. Oh joy.
For much of the world Christmas is by far the most important time of the year and of course the ‘most wonderful’. So how can we enjoy the lead-up as much as the day itself? I’ve been battling this question for sometime, until it hit me. It was a real light-bulb moment. In fact it only came to the forefront of my mind last weekend. Here’s what happened.
I was out Christmas shopping when I stumbled across the tempting choc-filled Christmas calendars. Every year to date I have indulged in this annual tradition, however something felt different this year… Maybe it was my thighs, who knows, hehe. Before grabbing the collection of 25 chocolates from the shelf I asked myself, “Do I really need this? I mean really?” After a few short seconds I agreed to move away from the chocolate stand. But then out of nowhere another calendar caught my eye, which I felt was even better than the chocolate version. It was a tea-filled Christmas calendar! I got so excited. I LOVE herbal tea. So without further ado I proceeded to pick the calendar off the shelf and noticed it was pricey! I couldn’t justify the expense. An immediate sense of hopelessness fell over me. Fortunately this feeling only lasted a short moment as I was revelling in an idea, which hit me a lightning bolt. It was my very own HP moment, minus Lord Voldemort of course!
It was then that I decided to welcome the festive season with a brand new vision. I was to create my very own In the Spirit of Christmas Calendar!
Cut a long story short, last night I spent some time turning this idea into a reality. My desire was to design 25 challenges, all with an aim to make a difference. I wanted to ensure that each task was manageable enough no matter my workload. As I printed off the calendar another wave of inspo flooded over me. Immediately I felt moved to share it with my family. It was received favourably, so I printed off a few more copies. It was at that moment that my Christmas Calendar Challenge was born!
Sharing is caring so I thought I’d make it accessible to everyone! So here it is – an invitation to participate in this Christmas Calendar Challenge. All you need to do is click here and save the image on your phone, tablet or computer and complete each daily task. I have always had the belief that every Christmas should have the Triple F Factor – Food, Faith and Fun. So let’s unite! Let’s celebrate the year that was. Give thanks for all the wonderful blessings in our lives. Be hospitable, generous and kind. Share our passions and dreams with those around us. And anticipate what will no doubt be a fabulous 2017!
After all this is what Christmas time is all about.
Keep smiling,
Gianna Lucas Xx
